Contact Expo by DLS Solution was conceived and produced by artists Cayetano Ferrer, Jacqueline Kiyomi Gordon, Nate Hess, Jonathan Mandabach and Ashland Mines.
DLS Solution (Downtown Light and Sound Solution) brings Contact Expo to Disjecta Contemporary Art Center. A customized environment dedicated to presenting aesthetic solutions for the home, the office, the club, the web, public space, the screen, the eye, the ear and every surface of contemporary life. Using light and sound as material, Contact Expo focuses on the potential of surface as the site of sculpture - employing projection mapping and full-sphere sound sound with extensive speaker arrays to question the reliability of an object’s obligations to the quality or character of matter.
Contact Expo is a multi-channel, multi-layered sound and light installation composed of “skins” that continually shift and bleed into one another over the course of the six week exhibition. Object becomes floor, floor becomes reflection, reflection becomes stone. Weaving together programed images, new composition, samples and field recordings, Contact Expo plays with ideas of interface, perceptual immersion and artificiality. Injecting the sounds and images of living environments into the constructed, it presents a cacophony of experience that simultaneously consume the viewer while proposing an unapproachable distance between the “feeler” and the felt.
DLS Solution is an exhibition think tank focused on light and sound environments. The growing list of contributors include Daniela Anastassiou, O.A. Biddle, Cayetano Ferrer, Nate Gonzales Hess, Jacqueline Gordon, Jonathan Mandabach, Miles Martinez, Ashland Mines and Daniel Pineda. Blurring the boundaries between light industry and deep content production, DLS Solution is a platform for collaboration through corporate identity dissolution. DLS Solution is informed by rapid changes in aesthetics technology and seeks to modify existing frameworks to create new input/output circuitry for form and content. Past events and exhibitions by DLS Solution have taken place at Satellite Space in Santa Monica, and MOCA, Human Resources, and the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles.
