2016, Disjecta Contemporary Art Center, September 12 - 18
TBA at Disjecta!, September 10 - 20, 2015 MPA, Akio Suzuki & Aki Onda, Dynasty Handbag
During the week of the Portland, OR city-wide performance festival TBA, Disjecta in partnership with PICA hosted an ongoing - transforming installation by artist MPA and Performances on three separate evenings by MPA, Akio Suzuki & Aki Onda and Dynasty Handbag. Nothing to You was curated by Chiara Giovando in collaboration with Kristan Kennedy.
“I do not believe that this performance will put people into a transcendental state. We would need much more time together to accomplish this. So, what to do in the meantime?" - MPA Nothing To You is a temporary site-specific installation that will act as a frame for an encounter. MPA will direct an action that tours the perimeters of thoughtful collision between bodies, objects and sound within the space. Here, speakers mature into characters, and bodies regress into objects, calling into question the notion of subject - pre-tense, the state of being before action - during approximately 45minutes of provocative and attentive collapse.
